Applications
Begin with the image.
Choose the movement.
Perspective, focus and framing are separate decisions. Match the controls to the photograph you want to make.

Architecture & interiors
Rise and shift adjust the framing while the image plane remains upright. Start by establishing the camera position and orientation, then use movement to refine the composition.
Movement requires sufficient lens coverage and clearance. For rear-shift stitching, keep the lens fixed and work within its image circle; the available movement depends on the complete configuration.

Tilt changes the relationship between the lens and image planes. Used with careful focusing, it helps place the plane of sharp focus through the scene. It does not remove the need to evaluate focus across the image.
A composition head serves a different task: refining the camera angle and leveling the horizon. Choose camera movements or tripod-head movements according to the adjustment you need.

Work through the camera position, framing and focus separately. The TC18 provides independent front and rear movements, while bellows extension supports close-up work. Actual magnification depends on the lens and available extension.
When selecting a system, identify the subject size, required working distance, camera body and lens. These are more useful starting points than choosing a movement range in isolation.

A focusing rail moves the camera in controlled steps. For focus stacking, capture a sequence with appropriate overlap, then combine the frames in post-processing. The step size depends on magnification and depth of field.
The LS18R separates linear screw movement from a graduated panning clamp. On the DP5, a lower stage establishes the position and an upper stage provides finer travel. Scale divisions describe travel increments; they are not an automatic measure of image sharpness.
