The DP5 combines a long-travel lower rail with a short-travel upper stage. The lower stage brings the camera into position; the upper stage provides smaller manual adjustments for macro photography and focus-stacking sequences.
Two stages with different screw leads
The lower rail provides 120 mm of travel with a 4 mm screw lead and a 0.04 mm dial increment. Its folding crank supports quick repositioning; use the lower-stage lock to secure the position.
The upper stage provides 25 mm of travel with a 0.5 mm screw lead and a 0.01 mm dial increment. Its crossed-roller guide and push-pull mechanism do not rely on a return spring, and the upper stage holds position without an additional lock. These increments describe scale-indicated travel, not measured positioning accuracy.

Camera positioning and mounting
The standard arrangement places the two stages along the same axis. The upper Arca-type clamp can be removed and refitted at 90° to suit the camera or lens plate. The base also uses an Arca-type mounting interface. The mechanism is maintenance-free.

Manual focus stacking
Move the camera in steps and capture overlapping regions of focus, then combine the frames in post-processing. Select step size according to magnification and depth of field. The DP5 provides manual positioning; image capture and stacking are performed separately.
